Businessman Vijay Eswaran Shares His Views On Persistent Gender Gaps In Employment
Founder and Executive Chairman of the Board Vijay Eswaran’s QI Group of Companies is a multinational firm that sells a broad range of products to consumers. They offer health devices, consumer goods, travel, education, and lifestyle products and services. He founded this Hong Kong-based firm in 1998 and the products are sold through independent contractors in Southeast Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe.
Vijay Eswaran often speaks at conventions and other events. He recently launched a speaking tour in New York City where he will speak at multiple events. One of these was the Concordia Summit where he shared his thoughts on making a positive impact through investments. Concordia is a nonprofit organization that is trying to improve global society. At their event, he said that in addition to doing impact investing entrepreneurs also need to support women entrepreneurs, especially in East Asia and India.
He said that the primary flaw in these parts of the world is education. Women receive a subpar education compared to what men get. Another problem is that by the time a student graduates from college the education they received is generally already out of date. Vijay Eswaran says that at his company they have made empowering students, particularly women, one of the centerpieces of what they do.
He also talked about gender parity at the World Economic Forum. At this event over 700 government, business, and educational leaders gathered together. They came from 70 nations in order to come up with strategies to advance women’s careers including leadership development. Vijay Eswaran shared his views on a number of initiatives to help women in the workforce including the Growth and Economic Opportunities for Women. He said in his speech that there are gender gaps in both traditional and non-traditional jobs that need to be closed.
